Ox, a 14-year-old dog, had lived his whole life as a devoted friend to his owner. He had an absolute affection for human, but it’s not the case for the owner.
The owner didn’t think twice to turn up the dog to the closest shelter after the owner’s new significant other claimed to be “allergic” to Ox.
The staff at the Humane Society of Hamilton County in Indiana were crushed to see Ox’s disturbing behavior in his kennel just after his owner left. Ox cried out in defeat as he hung his head from his kennel bed.
The staff understood older dogs like him frequently lose their desire to life or are put down because his heart had been irreversibly damaged. The staff shared Ox’s tragic kennel photo on social media, and it has touched the hearts of countless people.
After sharing the post, a woman drove to the shelter and adopted Ox in less than two hours. While Ox was still in shock from the events of the day, his spirits lifted as he found himself in the embrace of another loving human.
Ox slowly began to open up to his new family and smiled once again in his new home. He was often haunted by the memories of his previous owner, but was also relieved that his new mom and human siblings loved him sincerely, kept him comfortable and were never mad at him.
Ox was aware of being loved and treasured in his new home, but his heart had never been able to heal from his earlier desertion and treachery.
Six months after his adoption, poor Ox passed away in the arms of the woman who brightened up his final days. We hope you are in a better place now, Ox. Rest in peace, sweetheart.
