He had several injuries, but the one that worried him the most was his back.
When he was transferred to the veterinary clinical center, they performed an emergency surgical intervention, he had a serious injury to his back that affected his spine . Although he managed to survive the operation, he is still recovering.
he operation lasted about five hours.
His diagnosis is really complex , but the medical team is confident that this adorable puppy will be victorious, for this he needs the support not only of his caregivers but of all animal lovers who can donate money, or even take their puppies to who are blood donors . This is really necessary, because he has lost a lot of blood and it is necessary to replace it.
Zeus has strong bones despite his age, but it is not yet known how effective the operation was.
For this reason, their rescuers have come to Hope Dog Rescue to ask for all possible collaboration. Through a Facebook account they have made known the entire procedure to which Zeus has undergone.
“Blood donor dogs are needed for Zeus. The Zeus red blood count is very low, and requires a blood transfusion, otherwise it may be a matter of hours before it goes away.”
Fortunately, they received satisfactory answers and several people showed up with their puppies as volunteers. However, there is still much to do, after the surgery the recovery has been slow . Through a publication they commented:
“Zeus is an older dog who has lived his entire life on the streets. He has been lying down for two weeks after surgery , drains were inserted into his deep wounds. Zeus is now unable to stand up on his own or promote his upright position, so we decided to get him a wheelchair in the hope that he will be more mobile , so he can stand upright for a few hours a day, improve circulation and also with good luck easing your frustration.”
Gradually Zeus is showing some signs of recovery, he no longer needs oxygen and is breathing on his own , he is still in a lot of pain so his medications have been increased to try to alleviate so much discomfort.
Despite this small advance, her caregivers do not want to feed false hope, they know that her situation is very delicate and anything can happen. In a recent update on their condition they wrote:
“Things look quite positive although we don’t want to get our hopes up. Her limbs no longer seem stiff and she has started to drink water on her own . Zeus is 15 years old, a pretty old age for a stray, since they don’t usually live on the streets that much. He was rescued a few weeks ago with a huge gash on his back , so big and deep that the vet was able to fit his entire hand into it.
He is expected to stay at the vet for the next two to four weeks, depending on his recovery. We have a dog wheelchair ready for you to use, but the happiest day for Zeus will be when he can walk on his own again .
His entire veterinary bill, from the day he was first rescued to the day he is discharged, is estimated to be about $20,000.
The past of this puppy has not been the best, fortunately now it is in the right hands. He continues to fight for his life and shows that despite his age he still deserves to enjoy a dignified life full of love .
