Formerly Blind Dog Is Overjoyed To See His Dad’s Face Again After Surgery

This dog, Bob, has been living in a world obscured for a while. In both of Bob’s eyes, a minor case of cataracts ultimately became worse until he was completely blind. This weighed heavy on his spirit.

“He became quieter, afraid of bumping into furniture,” Amaro, Bob’s vet said. “He could no longer run to greet his owner when he came home, and he always loved to welcome him.”

Bob was so sad because his dad’s face was now only a fading memory. But that state won’t last forever.

Amaro is a veterinary ophthalmologist who focuses in canine eyes. She was aware that, despite Bob’s seeming helplessness over his situation, cataract surgery may restore his vision.

An appointment for the surgery was made for last week after consulting with Bob’s father. And at that point, everything was altered. Bob’s entire universe suddenly had its curtain removed.

“Right after the operation, he already showed encouraging signs,” Amaro said. “He kept looking up at us, as if to say, ‘I can see!’”

But Bob had one person in particular he was eager to see: his dad. The two met again the next day. For the first time in months, Bob could actually see the face of the man whom he’d been missing the sight of most. With that, his once-withering spirit blossomed anew.

“He totally transformed,” Amaro said. “There was so much joy. It was very moving.”

Bob is now recovering at home, formerly a place of unseen obstacles and the setting of his fading vision. Now, it’s once again fully a place of comfort and love where his heart can truly flourish.
